What we do

Our mission is to bring together environmental psychology researchers across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, fostering connections, collaborations, and knowledge exchange within ANZEP and beyond to generate more impact.

How ANZEP came to be

The community of social psychologists conducting research in environmental psychology across Australia and New Zealand has been steadily growing. Researchers at universities from Brisbane to Christchurch, from Wellington to Perth, have been independently advancing the field — studying climate beliefs, pro-environmental behaviour, misinformation, and the psychology of sustainability.

ANZEP was formally established to build on that momentum — to create a network that reflects and amplifies this growing community. Our first pre-conference, held in November 2025 at the University of Melbourne, brought together researchers from across the region to share insights, identify opportunities, and co-develop a shared research agenda focused on real-world impact.

The network is researcher-led and volunteer-run, coordinated by a Steering Committee drawn from universities across both countries. We are committed to being an inclusive, cross-Tasman community that values diverse research approaches and supports researchers at all career stages.
